River Rock Guide Service offers fishing for smallmouth bass on Chequamegon Bay, trolling on the big lake for trout and salmon or inland stream fishing. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or just begining we have a trip that can fit your needs.
Ashland is located on Chequamegon Bay, known for its diverse fishery and world class smallmouth fishing. The best time for bass fishing is in the spring when the fish are in shallow and getting ready to spawn. However they can be caught with the fly rod or on top water in the summer. Smallmouth are not the only fish in the bay. In a day of fishing it is not uncommon to catch Northern and Walleye as well.

Also within driving distance are many trout streams and lakes. River Rock Guide Service offers both float and wade trips for trout. We can float the Brule and White Rivers or take a backwoods tour to a lesser fished stream. There are several major insect hatches on the rivers. We can do night time floats to fish the Hex hatch that the White River is famous for or fish the evening caddis and mayfly hatches on the Brule River. We also offer steelhead fishing trips in the spring and lake run brown fishing trips in the late summer and fall. There are several local stocked trout lakes. These lakes can give up some nice trout to the fly rod.
We also offer trolling on Lake Superior for trout and salmon. Trolling on the big lake can be very relaxing and an enjoyable experience for the entire family. There isn't anything quite like pulling a large lake trout out of water over 100 feet deep or having a big steelhead tail dance across the surface.
Trips Include:
· 6-8 hours on the water
· Photos of your trip on CD or by E-mail
· Bait, tackle, and flies are provided*
· Spectacular views
Equipment:
All equipment is provided for all trips. For bass fishing we have new Jason Mitchel rods with Pfleuger reels. We also have fly fishing equipment for your use if you would like to try fly fishing.
You may use your own equipment if you choose. For bass I recomend a medium rod and reel with a smooth drag. If fly fishing is your choice then a 9 foot 7 or 8 wt rod is perfect. A weight forward floating line is good most of the time but it is sometimes nice to have a sink tip if the fish move deeper. For trout a 8 or 9 foot 5 or 6 wt is perfect on the larger rivers. You have the chance of hooking a lake run fish that can take you for a ride so the heavier rod is sometimes nice to have later in the summer. For the smaller streams a 7 or 8 foot 3 wt rod is perfect for fishing dry flies and light tippet. A floating line is good for all summer fishing but a sink tip is nice to have for high water in the spring.
