Fishing has still been spotty, but with the weather starting to warm we're starting to hear some better reports. Lake trout bobbing has been best in deep water ( over 150) throught the islands. Beetles and large spoons tipped with cut herring have been the top producers. Ice conditions are generally excellent with 12 to 20 inches in most locations. As always in the islands, make sure you check ice as you go since conditions can change rapidly with this warmer weather. In the bay a few more fish seem to have moved in. There have been some decent catches of coho, splake, smelt, perch, and walleye. Tip-ups baited with lake shiners and swedish pimples tiped with a shiner head have been the most productive presentations. If your looking to catch smelt, try a Hali jig tipped with a waxie. Ice in the bay has averaged 24-30 inches with little snow cover. A couple real trophies were caught in recent weeeks, including a 12# walleye, and a few lakers over 20#. As march progresses, run off from the rivers, and diminishing ice thickness should really get these fish going.
River Rock Inn and Bait has all the gear and bait you need for your outing as well as excellent lodging. Be sure to stop by for the latest reports.
Good Fishing!!
