Welcome everyone,
Well things are starting to change fast in the great outdoors, the robins are back along with their other feathered friends and the snow is pretty much gone now, which means it's just about time to get the boats in.
Sounds like there are some boats using Saxon Harbor already and Port Wing and Cornicopia should be right behind and now that the Coast Guard has broken the ice in the South Channel, Bodin's Landing and Bayfield,s landing will be right behind with the right wind.
Only a few angler,s left venturing out on the ice in the bay, as it is deteriating very fast, but there have been some reports of perch from 2nd landing, and some browns and coho out from Ashland, but PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE, Walking is recommended.
Inland icefishing has been picking up daily with nice catches of Crappie and Bluegill being taken in the 10 to15ft range not far from there spawning grounds. waxies and crappie minnows are the norm here.
Be careful here too as the ice is getting soft, probably a week left depending on our local weather.
There are fish in the rivers with some nice reports of holdover browns being caught in the brule using egg sucking leeches, large black stoneflies, yarn flies and spawnbags.
There also was some nice reports of steelies being caught from the rivermouths in the last two weeks and these fish are now in the rivers, recent melt and rain has put things to a halt for a couple of day's on the rivers as the are running high and dirty but as these recede things should pick up fast.
The Hot Pond area in Ashland has opened up quite a bit and angler's are trying their luck from shore and a few in boats, coho, bass and a few walleye are showing themselves here already.
As our weather continues to warm up the action will pick up quickly, so be ready!!
Feel free to call or visit the staff here at River Rock Inn & Bait for more up to date daily reports,we will do our best to assist you.
We also have a great selection of live bait with summer tackle coming in this week.
One last note, the smelt should be arriving shortly and we will keep you posted on the run,so have them net's ready.
GOOD LUCK EVERYONE AND TIGHT LINES TO ALL!
