Smelting reports from last night were very spotty, with only a few caught in most locations. Weather conditions weren't ideal, with quite a bit of rain and wind. Most nets were getting around 10 smelt per pull. The forecast for tonight and this weekend are calling for rain changing to snow with northeast winds. Theres a good chance that the ice will blow back in along the ashland side making smelting difficult.
Trollers are having mixed success through the islands down towards Houghton Point catching a mixed bag of browns, coho, splake, and lakers. Water conditions are very dirty all the way out into the islands right now, making fishing a bit challenging. Bright colors and rattling baits may increase your chances of hooking up.
We will update the smelt report tomorrow when we have the latest info. Good luck!!
