Fishing reports over the last week have been pretty good. In the bay fishermen are picking up walleye, pike, and bass. River rock's Jamie caught and released a 42" Northern yesterday along the Ashland shoreline. Stop in and see the Picture on our bulletin board! Other anglers are starting to have some luck trolling the Ashland waterfront for northern and a few walleye as well. Shallow running stick baits have been the best producer for trollers, shore anglers are doing best on dead smelt. The walleye bite will continue to improve over the next couple weeks as water temps warm. Bass action has been good in the the sloughs and the hotpond area. Husky Jerks, X-raps, tube jigs, and Senko worms have been producing well up in the sloughs.
From Houghton point north through the islands trollers have been doing well on trout and salmon. Fish are still in very shallow for the most part. Stick baits presented off planer boards have been catching most of the fish. There have been a number of nice browns in the 7-10 # range caught over the last week along with lots of coho, a few kings, lake trout, splake, and steelhead.
There are still a few steelhead in the rivers along with plenty of resident stream trout. Spinnners, various fly patterns, and night crawlers have been producing fish.
River Rock Inn & Bait has what you need for your next fishing trip form the largest selction of stickbaits this side of Duluth, to our expanding trolling section, and great live bait. Also be sure to check out our excellent hotel rooms for some of the most comfortable lodging around.
Good Fishing!
