Welcome Everyone,
Snow, snow and more snow seems to be the norm for weather lately, but it hasn't slowed down the bite on the Bay.
Went out from Bodin's Resort on Christmas myself and managed to land two splake 22in and 21 in and a nice brown of 24in in only a couple of hours, both deadsticking and jigging spoons were the trick.
the bite has been decent over there but there is some very thin ice, i had one inch in some places and had to back off,i'm only 140lbs.
there has been a bite off of Washburn also but you have too look for them somedays shallow 15ft other days deeper 25 to 35ft of water, mixed bag over there trout, whitefish, northern and an occasional walleye.
Tip-ups and jigging spoons are the norm over there.
Ashland side started out with a bang this year for the walleyes in 14 to 18ft of water along with some nice northerns and a few whitefish and scattered perch. But the conditions are getting worse on this side with lot's of snow and bad slush pockets, 4 wheelers are having lot's of troubles and it's also getting worse on the washburn side' if you have a snowmobile bring that instead, hopefully we will get a good warm spell to knock some of that snow down.
No lake trout bobbing yet probably in 2 to 3 weeks if the weather cooperates, there is ice over by bayfield and the islands but only skim ice.
Inland fishing has been alright if you can get out {slush&snow} with decent catches of walleyes yet and northerns, have heard of some dandy crappies being caught in the deeper water over 20ft some up to 16 1/2inches.
Looks like the below zero weather is gone for a little while to help make things more comfortable out on the ice, just remember to be cautious out there with all of the insulating snow.
Till next year, tight line to everyone.
Jaime.
