ICE Fishing on Chequamegon Bay has been spotty but good ice. There is a plowed road off Ashland’s Kreher Park / Prentice Ave., with trucks driving out to the shacks (12”-18”of ice). Ice is reported good off Washburn (6” – 8”) out to Houghton point. The ferry to Madeline Island from Bayfield stopped running on Monday the 29th of December.
Some reports of perch at 1st and 2nd landing on the east side of the bay, lots of small perch off the Ashland Marina. A few guys have been reporting some decent catches in the area of the lighthouse with a mixed bag of Splake, Coho’s, Perch, and even some smelt.
People are fishing off Washburn to Houghton Point with some nice Trout and even a few Browns.
Guys are getting out off the Sioux and the Onion River and catching Browns, Whitefish, Lakers, and Coho’s, but the water is a little cloudy out past 30 foot depth.
Some fishing going on off of Red Cliff and Bayfield with reports of a few Lakers and nice Browns, ice is 6” – 8” thick close to shore but be safe as the ice is newer out closer to the islands.
We got fresh snow on Sunday January 4th and the ice is snow covered so be careful!!!
We will have Lake Shiners on Wednesday, Jan 7th, and for the lake trout bobbers bait herring.
