Hello folks here is the latest reports from chequamegon bay and inland waters. Sorry it’s been awhile since our last report. We will be keeping up on weekly conditions and the hot bites for our area. Lets start with ice conditions for the bay and the islands; the ice in the bay is holding around 18’ to 24’ depending were you are and the ice in the islands is holding around 12’ to 18’ “IT IS getting BAD” the bobbing season is over for another season. It was a great season for bobbers LOTS OF big Lakers were landed this season with good numbers of 20 plus pound lakers and many in the low to mid teens. The bay ice is on its last days for safe travel. Walking out is the only safe way of getting to your spots. There are still people going out by ATV and snowmobile but it is not recommended. Areas around docks, piers and underwater humps are getting thinner daily. Please stay away from these areas. The landings are holding at this point. But will be getting worse as the weeks pass. As for inland ice, it is still in good shape but again foot travel is your best bet this time of year. The fishing reports are getting better by the day from walleye to shallow water trout. walleye and pike are starting to stage for the last ice bite from 15ft out to 25ft depending on the area lake shiners and golden shiners are your best bet for tipups and jigging spoons tipped with shiners are going to be the ticket for walleye and northern. The perch bite is going strong from the light house to the landings small lake shiners and waxies are getting action with some good limits coming off the ice daily keep moving to stay on the perch schools. The trout and salmon bite is picking up as well with the warm temps and warm run off on local creek and river mouths; lake shiners on tipups and spawn bags are producing good numbers of fish as well as jigging spoons and pimples tipped with shiners and waxies. The late ice herring and whitefish bite is also picking up in the areas that you can still safely get to again small is the word for baits go as small as the current will allow tip with waxies or shiner heads and tails. The inland bite is getting better by the day as well crappie are holding in deep water from 15 to 25ft of water; crappie minnows and waxies are all producing fish and some soft plastic’s are also taking fish. The Bluegill and perch are also keeping anglers busy; small pan fish jigs tipped with waxies and small minnows are taking fish as well. Please keep checking with us for ice reports and the start of the smelt run here on the bay. We will also be taking orders for fresh smelt again this spring please call the shop to get your orders in to make sure you get your smelt for the year.
