Here it is the end of March and an early spring up here in big lake country. The ice is in bad shape and will soon be on its way out 2 maybe 3 weeks? All depends on temps and winds but it will be going earlier than most years. We have been trolling for the last 2 weeks from the Cornucopia area and over at sand Bay. Red cliff and Bayfield landing are still frozen. Saxon harbor is open and have we heard of a few Coho’s coming out of there as well. The Coho’s have been the main bite but some nice browns have also been mixed in too. The fishing has been good most days. You just have to find the pods of fish once you find them you can work different baits and colors to find which works best for that day. The water temps have been cold right around 35 to 37 degrees most days. But will start to warm up over the next few weeks not a lot but will start to warm up. Most fish have been 30ft up shallow to 6ft again you just have to find were they are on that day. Hot colors and natural are the norm run deep divers and shallow I like to mix them and see what is working best. The early stream season starts this Saturday, March27th for the Fish Creek, Sioux, Onion and Brule rivers. The rivers had a big run off last week which most likely pushed the first run of steelhead up stream most water should be fishable for the opener. Stop in and see all the new gear we have for this open water season also for the fly fisherman stop next door at bow fly for your entire fly fishing needs great selection on most anything you could need for a great day on the stream.
