Well were into the 2nd week of May and the weather has been more like April this past week. All last week the wind was blowing hard with off and on rain then Friday we had blowing snow. So the fishing was a little hit or miss last week and looks like it might go the same way this week high winds and rain and sleet are the forecast for this week as well. But on a good note most that have been able to get out trolling between the gale winds have been doing well on Coho and lake trout with a few steelhead and browns mixed. Long island and Houghton Pointe have been seeing the most action for guy’s trolling around the bay. Smallmouth fishing is starting to pick up as well look for fish to be scattered from 8ft into the shallow’s both in the sand cut area and over in the Kawkagon area . Fish will be moody on the cold front days and need lures worked slowly for the best bite. Live bait is always a good bet as well. Just don’t let them take it for too long and please use circle hooks for the live bait. Sucker minnows and jumbo leeches work best but big crawlers injected with air can be hot as well with very little split about 18 inches above the hook. The walleye bite still has not jumped into gear yet with all the fronts banging in and out over the last week maybe next week we will see some better action on them. Pike have been hitting for the guy’s chasing them from soaking smelt to casting spoons and stick baits it has all been putting up fish. For Inland fishing we will start with the streams most have been fishing well even with the lower clear water. The browns and Brookies have been hitting well most days everything from Mepps and panther martins to worms and crawlers have been catching fish. Fly’s have also been catching fish have seen a few hatch’s coming off while out this last week. The inland lakes are putting up some nice fish with good numbers on the right days from crappie to walleye. The bass and pike have been hitting well on most waters too, using lures to live bait.
